The dance steps alternate between the right and left foot and remain at first more or less in place:

> Move sideward to the right with the right leg, alternating steps between left and right legs (short shifts of weight and release in place).

< Change to the left, mirror the same step pattern on the other side.

< Move sideways to the left with the left leg, alternating steps between the right and left legs (short shifts of weight and release in place).

> Change to the right.

Start again from the beginning.

Emphasis on one, two, three (short, short, short > R L R ) - change (long > L ) - one, two, three (short, short, short > L R L ) - change (long > R).

Stylistically, the steps are very flat and small, a little jumpy, because the women traditionally had little open sandals and heavy clothing.
